Color changing cars

I’ve always wondered when we’re going to see cars where you can dynamically change its color/paint job on the press of a few buttons. It seems Nissan has come up with an interesting solution and I can’t wait to see it in action.

Read all about it here.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and our Vitz

During my trip to Pakistan I noticed that a lot of vehicles were running on CNG. It is basically an environmentally clean alternative to petrol or diesel. Not only that; it is also very cheap and the current price of petrol in Pakistan (~KD.250/L) makes it a very viable option. It costs approximately half the price of petrol and a huge majority of cars are using it. A recent study announced Pakistan as the third largest consumer of the source behind Brazil and Argentina. A lot of cars come factory-fitted with the CNG kit and if it doesn’t, you can take it over to a shop and get it done in about 3-4 hours. Once it is done, you have a button which you can use to switch between the two sources of fuel.

  • For most people there, petrol is barely affordable anymore.
  • Cheap

  • The cylinder takes up most of the room in the boot.
  • Has a noticeable effect on the car’s performance, especially acceleration.
  • Additional weight in the car due to the cylinder (approx. 50 kgs), that probably doesn’t help with performance either.
  • Frequent fill-ups (one fill lasts about 90 kms) and long queues at the limited but growing CNG stations.

When I was there, my dad purchased a second car for the home; a Toyota Vitz (Yaris in Kuwait) and we took it straight to the CNG place from the showroom (below is a pic of it getting CNG-ed). By the way, the Vitz has a really cool digital dashboard (pic below).

Bumblebee is a Camaro

Turns out Bumblebee is going to be the new Camaro in the upcoming Transformers movie. I thought he was supposed to be a VW Beetle, but this is way cooler.Apparently, “Bumblebee” is going to start out as a 1970s Camaro, and then be rebuilt as a 2008/2009 Camaro. Meanwhile, “Starscream” is going to be an F-22 Raptor, and “Optimus Prime” is going to be a fire truck.

Read the rest of it here.

This movie better be good and and that’s my ex-Camaro above.

Taxis in Dubai

Just when Kuwait managed to mimic the sandy colors of the taxis in Dubai; they one-upped it and painted the roofs all sorts of different colors. Check it out here.

Wonder Bus – Dubai

Dubai always seems to have a few pleasant surprises. A good friend of mine is going to visit this week and told me about this new and interesting attraction. The Wonder Bus by Sea & Land Adventures is a bus ride that transforms into a sea ride! I’ll be sure to check it out the next time i’m there. However, if you check all the pictures in their gallery (e.g. bus plunging into the water), it gets you wondering whether its alright for infants.

What does BMW stand for?

I was driving to work today in the morning and saw the new VW Passat in front of me. I kind of like what they’ve done overall and it gives the car a more classier look. Then I just thought that VW stands for Volkswagon, so what does BMW stand for. Here you go:

Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft, or in English, Bavarian Motor Works.
