Microsoft is soon going to introduce a very interesting new concept. They are calling the product ‘Surface’ and basically its a computer in the form of a table with a large touchscreen surface.
The cool thing about it is that you would require no mouse or keyboard to use it. You can place a digital camera on the table and the images within it would automatically show up on the screen (of course the camera would require some wireless interface to connect) and then you may use your fingers to orient them, re-size them, etc. Similarly, you could do finger painting and other drawings.
The possibilities are endless and an example I’ve read is that it could be used in a cell phone shop where you place one particular model on the table and all its specifications show up on the screen. You can then place another model on the table and all of a sudden you’ve got yourself comparison sheets and other details. Their main idea behind this concept was to more closely mimic how people do things in the real world.
Its all very reminiscent of Minority Report.
