Visit visa restrictions in Kuwait

The Ministry of Interior of Kuwait has decided now that expats are only worthy enough to call their wives or children to Kuwait on visit visas. No parents, no siblings and no in-laws. This rule is supposed to be applicable to all nationalities (sure!) with specific instructions towards eight nationalities (now we’re talking): Iraqis, Iranians, Syrians, Afghan, Bangladeshis, Somalis, Egyptians (really?) and Pakistanis. Supposedly, all earlier directives for visit visas stand null and void in front of this one.

While I won’t be surprised if this new rule gets changed multiple times within this year itself, and while I could never establish why Kuwait cannot have well thought-out and long-lasting rules on these issues like most other countries (the rules keep fluctuating like there is no tomorrow); for the life of me I don’t understand how such a discriminating and harsh rule can be thought of, let alone implemented, in the first place!

This is nothing short of a direct insult to all expats in Kuwait. Instead of sorting out the problems (whatever they may be), they decide it would just be easier to implement this generalized rule.

My parents spent 30 odd years in Kuwait and my sister was born here and what a shame it will be if they are unable to get a visit visa to it.

      Hello,

Kindly tell me if the visiting visa to enter into kuwait has been lifted because i wish to come for holiday in kuwait sometime in August, 2010.

Kindly assist by replying to this.

      Ma Salaam.

      Halimat.

nibaq: I’m not sure if the bad apples you speak of are from the people who made this decision or from the parents, siblings or in-laws that wish to visit. If the latter, then I certainly agree that the process must be more rigid so as to filter out the unwelcome elements, but not an outright ban of all and sundry.

I work for Ministry of Interior. We’ve received instructions not to approve visas for Iraqis, Iranians, Syrians, Afghan, Bangladeshis, Somalis, Egyptians, Pakistanis, Jordanians, Palestinians, Lebanese. But we are instructed to permit Indians, Philipinos and few other nationalities as their track record is good.

      hello Ahmad

if you can tell me this, can a child 1 year old come with mother and father on visit visa issued by anyone in kuwait.

    • 8 Far February 24, 2010 at 12:27 pm

      Hi Ahmad,
I just heard that the ministry has stopped issuing visit and resident visas for people working as expats in Kuwait. I think this is not fair as these guys have already left everything to come to Kuwait to join an organization here. They must be given the residency as they were hired by an organization here in Kuwait and given the visit visa on the first place and after like 2 months they get to hear that their visa cannot be changed to resident and they have to go back. I am talking about people from the nations mentioned above i.e. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghan etc.

      Regards,
      Far

      Hi Sir,

I had been there in Kuwait 11 months working for a company. I resigned the job, cancelled my visa and came back to India. After 5 months I got a new job there in another company. And I have been waiting for the visa for the past 4 months. But now I got a message from travel agency that my new company applied for visa 3 times. But they (MOI) rejected my visa saying ‘Security Issue’ as the reason. Can you help me out please?

  5. 15 Sabah Hussain May 31, 2007 at 4:00 pm

Ahmad Marafie: Thanks for visiting and posting your response. This is the logic that I fail to understand. How can you let so many people who fall under the banned nationalities suffer just because a few spoil the ‘track record’.

Where do the genuine cases go? Is there anyone to turn to once they refuse to accept your visa application even though you yourself have a perfect track record? I’ll appreciate your feedback.

  6. 16 Jojee June 7, 2007 at 10:52 am

I am an Indian and trying to bring my mother to Kuwait on visit visa. Do you guys have any idea whether this would be allowed by the Immigration department?

  7. 17 Sabah Hussain June 7, 2007 at 2:23 pm

Unfortunately, as per the law it should not work. However, the fact that they will be more strict towards the 8 nationalities may also mean that they will be lax to the ones who don’t fall in that net. Best of luck!

Can anyone advise me whether a 69yr old Project Director, degree qualified and chartered with former Middle East experience stands any chance of getting a residency visa to take up a post of Project Director with a consultancy operating from Kuwait.

  9. 19 Nicole March 13, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Just now heard of a change of the laws again…..
They change their laws here more often than some of them do their…uh…no, I don’t go there 😉

i am living in kuwait as a permenent resident.can i sponsor my sister and her husband to visit us for few days.they are living in dubai as permenent residents.we are pakistani residents.

  11. 22 Sabah Hussain March 16, 2008 at 12:46 pm

    Nicole: Spot on! 🙂

Bushra Naseem: I heard some talk about people who are GCC residents getting some special privileges to enter Kuwait as opposed to the others. I think the visitor had to belong to a certain category of skilled workers (don’t know the details unfortunately). My best advice would be to go to one of those shops that provide the service of preparing your application for you, as they would have a better picture.

Hi even my parents spent 35 odd year here in kuwait and my sister was born here in kuwait. I agree to your comment that they shall keep a fixed law for visit visas.
Here they treat us as we are thier maids.
I want to bring my parents on a visit visa but i recently heard or is it a rumour that they issue visit visa for only 1 month and if we want to extend then pay KD.50 per month (is it true)?
here every morning there is a fresh rule imposed.

  14. 25 Kaptain August 4, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Indeed, ‘specific’ instructions to AOE countries. Dilemma for expats who spent fortunate lives and youth here to build these countries to see themselves being evicted so conveniently…

Expats are aliens yesterday and tomorrow..in their own homelands..

Hi, I am working for an organization in kuwait. I have the visa but having issues with the residency. Can you confirm when is the residency going to open for Pakistani nationals? Is this residency issue only for Pakistanis in Kuwait or is it for everyone? Kindly tell me when is the ban going to be raised so i can apply for the residency accordingly.

    Regards,
    FK

  31. 44 George April 3, 2010 at 11:48 pm

I am resident in UAE and working in multi-national, well known organization with an office in Kuwait. I have been to Kuwait many times and the visa was always arranged through my office except this time everyone told me that Kuwait now allows visa upon arrival for GCC residents with certain education background and job designation like Dubai, Doha and Bahrain and to be sure I called the embassy and they confirm the same. In fact, I was going for one day meeting and flying the next day to another place and just in case I carried with me a letter from my company confirming all info on my passport. However, I was surprised when the employee told me that I can not have the visa upon arrival cause I am holding Syrian passport!!! I asked him do you mean all Middle East passport holders and he replied “No, only Syrian!” I explained to him that I am holding a University degree and my job title on the passport is “Director” and I have a five-star hotel booking and return ticked on First class, but he said “it does not matter, we have instruction that visa can not be issued for Syrian and even if you are holding diplomatic passport!!” I asked “but why? is there any diplomatic issues recently which I am not aware of as I have been traveling a lot and unfortunately I did not follow the news, except that I read in one newspapers that the amount of trade between the two countries are increasing and a lot of Kuwaiti’s investments are taking place in Syria and both countries enjoy a great relationship recently, so what’s going on?” no one could answer my question. I can totally understand if that’s happening in the states although I was there last year – of course I have to go through the usual visa procedures – but at the end I have got the visa. I would also totally understand if that Rules applied on group of Nationalities or in case that my job title is not from the permitted category. But to say only Syrian, I felt like I am coming from a nation that is considered as an enemy to the Kuwait among all other Nationalities. I have a lot of Kuwaiti friends and because I was supposed to be there less than 24 hours I did not call them before i make the trip to Kuwait but when I told them about this incident they started laughing and told me next time you should inform us and we will sort our your visa even if you are Syrian and actually I met another Syrian who was stopped at the airport but he maid a phone call and exception was made although he was not there for business and will properly stay one month in his family house!!! While, a business person with hotel booking and meet all other requirement can not have the visa! I decided to drop this market from my list and continue my business plan without Kuwait unfortunately.

I am an Indian, living in Saudi Arabia, and I have friends in Kuwait, and we(along with family)travel to Kuwait often, last trip was in December 2009, actually in 2009 we traveled to Kuwait about 5 times, and each time obtaining (wihout any problems) the visa on Nuwaiseeb border, my profession is Marketing Specialist and I have an MBA degree.
And by showing my Saudi Iqama & the degree I always used to get the visa (valid for 3 months).
Yesterday, we tried again to come to Kuwait and this time I was denied the Visa, and the reason cited that the laws are changed and despite showing the translation of the degree (MBA one) I could not obtain the visa.
Folks, I am keen to know about any rule got changed in last 4 months or 3 and half months to be precise.

Kuwait is an absolute joke!! I lived there for 10 years, (my father-30 years!) before going to university in UK, and now I can-not even visit my family cause I’m bangladeshi. They caused untold sufferings to my mother and young sisters who I havent seen for 2 years now. Last time I saw them were in Bangladesh but imagine the cost of travel for 6 members to go for a round trip for a 3 weeks re-union.

The idiot of lawmakers are simply prejudiced, ignorant and plain eveil. They are straight up infringing on me and my family’s human rights. Shame be to them!!!

Someone tell me how I can get myself heard, cause the Kuwait Foreight ministry wont listen at all, email if you have suggestions at reaz2@hotmail.com

Since more and more companies are using sales promotions in order

This is an observation made by many analysts of the market.
